Hoax warning -
Hoax email
Please be aware that a SCAM email has circulated recently. It involves an email that at first glance seems quite official as they include a copy of the ATO logo. The wording is along the lines of:

Sent: Wednesday, 19 December 2012 11:06 AM
To: <<will show your email address>>Subject: Tax Agent Report - Delayed Tax Returns
Please do not respond to this email
Tax agent report for delayed tax returns over 30 days
Please find attached your weekly report for the period ending 11/12/2012
What you need to do
Refer to the initial notification email with attachment we sent you with instructions on how to interpret your tax agent report.

Please DO NOT respond to the email it is a SCAM.
Hoax Phone Call
Please be aware that in the past, people have also called claiming to be from the ATO with a refund of over $700 that is claimable by ringing (02) 8282 5250. At that point they are then asking for personal details so that the funds can be forwarded. PLEASE DO NOT engage with the caller in the first instance and certainly do not provide any personal information. This is a SCAM.
